Germany

German jazz/pop acoustic/electric bassist Stefan Engelmann is one of the most sought-after bassists in Germany.

His love of jazz dates from his involvement in the Saarland Youth Jazz Orchestra, at a very young age. These experiences were deepened by participating in international workshops and working with teachers such as the Norwegian bassist Arild Andersen, guitar legend John Abercrombie, and more.

This was followed by studies at the Luxembourg State Conservatory and, in parallel, four years of classical training on the double bass. Through his participation as a bass player in various musicals such as “Hair” or “The Rocky Horror Show”, he performed on national and international stages for several years.

Besides being active across styles, as numerous engagements at the Saarland State Theater, as well as radio, television and studio productions show, his main field of activity is jazz. Next to his work as a teacher and lecturer, he is mainly active as a performing and recording musician.

He has been a long-time member of the Michael Sagmeister Trio, Saarland guitarist and composer Frank Nimsgern’s project, the Martin Preiser Trio, he is also present on many stages in Germany and across Europe with Helmut Eisel & JEM, and more recently with the Maria Palatine Band.

As a member of the Capitol Hausband in Mannheim he also presents himself in some very interesting own productions.
