Initially briefly interested in rock guitar playing, Salvatore La Rocca discovered jazz at age 23, in the early 80’s, switched to double bass and taught himself the jazz idiom, taking Paul Chambers as a model.

La Rocca tirelessly built on his abilities as a musician, and it did not take long before he was noticed playing alongside Jacques Pelzer, Steve Houben, Steve Grossman, Jeanfrançois Prins, Lee Konitz, Toots Thielemans, Philip Catherine, Judy Niemack, Nathalie Loriers, Anne Ducros, Dani Klein featuring VAYA CON DIOS…

Sal La Rocca has released three albums as a leader: “Latinea” (2003),  “It Could Be The End (2012), with Jacques Schwarz-Bart, Lorenzo Di Maio, Pascal Mohy and Hans van Oosterhout, and “Shifted” (2018), with Jeroen van Herzeele, Pascal Mohy, and Lieven Venken.

"Lee Konitz stands out as one of the most beautiful poets in this expansive music. He's been an inspired improviser all his life and it comes through his horn in every breath!!
Jeanfrançois Prins is becoming a real voice on the guitar with a warmth that's all his own. His trio is a perfect match with Lee." Joe Lovano
